WEEKEND WRAP***
Week 2 of Essendon District Football League footy is done and dusted and what can we say but WOW! Some huge results coming over the weekend, the headline act being our come from behind win against Coburg Districts Football Club in the seniors game.
We got things under way on Friday night under lights as our Women faced a fired up Pascoe Vale Football Club. Unfortunately Pacco were too good for us on the night and ran out easy winners. The ladies need to keep following the instructions from Jamie and the results will come.
Saturday started at Cole Reserve with our Under 19’s taking on Moonee Valley FC. After a great come from behind win last week the boys were looking to build on that good form but came up against a determined Fog side who had belted Burnside last week. In very tough conditions, our boys struggled to hold the boys from the Valley and went down by 54 points. Jake our solitary goal kicker while the best were Jake “Dangerfield”, Brock, Cookie, Cassar, Jake H and Sorra. The boys need to bounce back next week against the Bears!
The Reserves game was a replay of last seasons Grand Final and again we managed to come out on top of the Lions. Coburg held a slim lead at the first break but we came back to kick 3 goals to nothing to lead at half time by 11 points. 2 goals to 1 in the third extended our advantage and we again kept them scoreless in the last while kicking 1.4 to run out 26 point winners. Leading goalkickers were Reece with 3and 2 to Dom. The best players were Tyla, Verga, Lamanna, Harry Potter, Chicka and Reece. Next week brings a top of the table clash with East Sunbury Football Club which is sure to be a cracker!
The seniors rounded out the day at Cole Reserve with a great come from behind win over the Premiership favourites. An even first quarter saw us trail by 2 goals – 4.7 to 3.1 – goals to Pitty, JayJay and Ferras keeping us in touch. A quick start to the second quarter saw us score through Nader and Sabba and the scores were tied at 31 apiece, the Lions scoreless for the quarter. After half time Districts took control and kicked 4 goals to 1 – our only goal coming through the skipper Pitty. We were lucky though as the Lions kicked 4.8 for the quarter and should have put us away. A goal to Friesy in his 200th got the ball rolling in the last before Barney added another then Sabba kicked the next 3 to have us leading by 3 points when the siren sounded. A great 5 goal to 1 quarter getting the job done. Sabba kicked 4 while Pitty kicked 2. Hayden was the best afield in a great effort considering we only had two on the bench before half time.
The other Saturday game was the first game for the season the the Thirds. We were away to Maribyrnong Park Football Club and were level at half time. Unfortunately Marby kicked away in the second half and won by 14 points. It was a great effort by the boys considering the team was only admitted into the division a week ago and were were competitive all day. Moudy took the reigns as coach for the day and kicked a goal while Billy helped himself to 2 and Atila got the other.
Sunday started with the Under 11’s taking on Airport West Football Club away. We jumped them early and held a 2 goal lead at half time thanks to goals from “Raging Bull” Huss and Zach, before Jack kicked one in the last term to earn our first win on the season – 3.6-24 to 0.1-1. Belal, Jesse and Mayen in the best
The 13’s travelled down the road to Willowbrook to take on Westmeadows Football Club but unfortunately they were too strong for us. Dylan kicked our only goal for the game while Jye, Luke, Bradley, Emihan and Zein were our best. We need ALL players to turn up to training if we want to improve. We also need ALL parents to stay at training and assist or make sure you are there for your children. the more we have at training the more match simulations we can run and our results will improve.
The Under 15’s were away to Keilor Football Club at Green Gully and got a second massive win in as many weeks. Coming off last weeks 184 point win, the boys went for the throat again and won by 228 points – kicking 34.25 to 0.1. Mo El Chamaa kicked 5 goals, Billy Kaddour & Ramzy Tannoura kicked 4 goals Keirles Israil, Zac Hansch and Taylan Bozkurt 3 goals while Emad, Ali & Isaac each kicked 2 goals withm numerous other single goal kickers, including Zac Camilleri, who after around 100 games, kicked a beauty for his 1st career goal.
Jason reported back that it was a superb team effort with everyone contributing to the win. Keep up the great work boys!
Our Under 17’s also played Keilor at Green Gully after the 15’s but unfortunately they went down by a point in a beauty of a game. Keilor held a 2 goal lead at the first break before we kicked 5 goals to one to hold a 2 goal lead at the main break. We still held the lead at the last change by 14 points but a 3 goal to 1 final term saw us fall just short of getting the win. A great effort from the boys though and one they can learn from. Hamdou kicked 4 and Eyad 3 while the best were Mo, Alex, Beany, Hamdou, Nick and Dogga
Finally, our Under 18 Youth Girls took on Hillside Sharks Football Club at Shark Park and came away with a great win, triumphing by 22 points. a 3.5 to 0 opening term set up the win but scoring was tough at the other end as we were held to no score in the second term and they kicked 2. A 3 goal to nothing third term again gave us some breathing space and while the Sharks kept attacking, they only kicked 1.6 for the final term with the breeze while we snuck 1.1 into the breeze to get the chocolates. Sarah was the only multiple goalkicker while the best were Ash, Sarah, Alana, Cookey, Macca and Olivia. Great work girls! things are coming together nicely!
Next week the seniors are again away, this time to East Sunbury Football Club. The Under 19’s are away to Burnside Heights Football Club on Saturday morning while the Thirds are at home to East Keilor FC. The 9s are home against St Francis Football Club, 11s have the bye, 13s are away to Airport West Football Club, 15s are at home to Hillside and 17s are at home playing West Coburg Football Club. Finally, our under 18 Youth Girls are home against Aberfeldie Sports Club. and our women are away to Avondale Heights Football Club
