Weekend Wrap - Week 3

23 Apr 2018 by Roxburgh Park Football Club

Week three is complete and all of our teams showed the ANZAC spirit over the weekends games.

We started on Saturday at Goonawarra against East Sunbury where the early game was saw the Under 19’s looking to bounce back from last weeks loss. Scores were locked at 3.1 apiece at quarter time before we got the jumped in the second term kicking 3.2 to no score to lead by 20 points at the main break. We kicked 2 in each of the next to terms while holding the Thunder to on goal to run out winners by 37 points. Tylar kicked 5, including a pearler from the boundary line on the run that even made Joshua smile! Sorra, Zac, Ahmed and Jake in the best but Josh did mention it was a terrific team effort and you should all be proud of yourselves. The win put’s us back in third spot on the ladder.

The Two’s Crew were up next and their undefeated start to the season continued. With Belal and Youssef back in the side, the forward line started to resemble the Premiership forward line of the past two seasons and helped again get the job done. We jumped the Thunder early and led by 20 points at the first change. A 3 goal to 2 quarter saw us stretch the lead to 30 points at half time but poor kicking saw us with a scoreline of 6.8. It tightened up again at 3/4 time as the third term sw us only kick 1.3 to their three straight. As has been the way the past few weeks, the final quarter was all magpies as we swooped, kicking 7.4 to one goal, winning by the even 10 goals. Billy kicked 4 and Youi 3 while Ryan, Alex Powell and Jovan were named in the best. The win puts us equal top with Moonee Valley who we play a few weeks after the bye.

In the seniors the theme from the past 2 rounds played out again, with bad kicking at goal costing the win as we went down by 15 points. We were 9 points down at 1/4 time, despite having had one more scoring shot – 2.3 versus 4.0. The Thunder then turned it on after quarter time and kicked 4.5 to 1.3 to take the lead out to 29 points at the break. They went further ahead in the third kicking 4.2 to 3.2 and had a 35 point lead at the last break. As we’ve seen the past few weeks, our boys showed a never say die attitude and fought the game right out to the bitter end, kicking 4.5 to 2.3 and cutting the final margin to 15 points. Luke kicked 3, Nader and Sammy with 2 each. Ferras, Cappa, Adrian, Ryan and Travis in the best. Take the week off with the bye boys and reload for the following week which will be a huge one with our first home game of the season.

The Thirds had a forfeit when East Keilor couldn’t get a side together for the day

Our Sunday at home opened up with the Under 9’s the first to kick the dew off the grass. They all had a great time and are learning more each week. Love your work with the kids Scott!

The Under 11’s had a bye so will be refreshed for next week and looking for win number 2.

The undefeated Under 15’s followed the 9’s and kept their streak going as they beat Jacana by 30 points and remain joint top of the ladder. The final margin should have been larger as we kicked 9.15. Moey and Ramzy kicked 3 goals each while Arif and Terrone booted 1. Abdul Bakdache also kicked his 1st career goal. A great competitive game and the boys answered the challenge against a team that never gave in. Another super team effort. Notable games by Billy Kaddour, Mo Yassine, Ahmed Elbouch, Nathan Bolitho, Taylan Bozkurt and Terrone Potter. Our thoughts are also with Nabil who looks to have an ACL injury. We hope that’s not the case but all the best for the recovery if it is Billy

The Under 17’s followed and poor kicking again took it’s toll as we lost a close one to West Coburg by 12 points. We kicked 7.14 to 9.14 after leading at 3/4 time. 5 straight behinds in the final term eventually doing the damage. Jaimon and Hamdou kicked two each while Beany, Jaimon, Hamdou and Mustafa were in the best.

The Youth Girls were up next against Aberfeldie but things didn’t go our way. The girls lost by 90 points to a slick Gorilla’s side. Macca, Emma, Regina, Shelby, Danira and Mona named in the best in a side missing some names to injury and Calder Cannons duty. Chin up girls!

The other two Sunday games were away where the Under 13’s and Women’s sides had the white shorts on.

The 13’s unfortunately ran into a red hot, top of the table Coburg Districts side which is yet to conceded a goal this season and that was true again today. Our boys fought it out until the end but couldn’t stop the Lions as they ran away to a big win. Roddie, Spongebob, Jai and Dylan in the best on the day. Keep the heads held high boys!

The final game of the weekend saw our women take on Avondale Heights and we put in a great display to earn our first win of the season. We may need to check the goal posts at Lakeside as the ladies were also inaccurate and the game could have been over at 1/4 time. We kicked 0.4 to no score and could have been away and running. In the second we kicked 3.2 to hold a 24 point lead at the main break. We didn’t score in the third while they kicked their only goal to have the margin at 18 points at the last change. We controlled the game from there and kicked another 1.2 to no score to run out winners by 26 points. Skipper Chloe kicked 3 (the week she got engaged to Sean) and Katelyn kicked 1. Our best were Emma, Jaymi, Tricia, Katelyn, Beritan and Amy. A superb effort given we played short. Keep it up ladies

Next week the Seniors and Reserves have the bye and can get an early season break in to refresh. Our Under 19’s play Strathmore away in what could be a crucial game for the boys against a good opposition. The Thirds are playing Airport West at home so it would be great to get as many seniors a possible to both these games and support the boys.

On Sunday our women’s team get a chance for back to back wins as the take on Aberfeldie at Lakeside, our youth girls are home to Pascoe Vale, the Under 17s play Aberfeldie as well at home, Under 15s travel to Nipper Jordan to take on Essendon Doutta Stars, 13s play Keilor Park at home, 11s are away to Tullamarine and the early game sees the Under 9s take on new team Hume Bombers in an away game at home!!!
