***WEEKEND WRAP***

29 Apr 2018 by Roxburgh Park Football Club

A slightly less hectic version of the wrap this weekend with no senior and reserves games due to the bye.

However, because there was a bye does not mean some of our stars didn’t get a run, as we still had Thirds and Under 19’s action on Saturday.

The thirds kicked things off on Saturday with a game at home against Airport West Football Club. We had a few senior/reserves boys pulling the boots on to help get some game time into them and their experience helped guide the Thirds to another win, this time a thriller with a 1 point victory. Macca, Moudy Kirky and Billy lined up and we held the early lead, up by 8 points at 1/4 time. We extended that margin to 14 at half time and looked in control. However, a 5 goal to 1 third term from the Eagles turned the game on it’s head and they had a 7 point lead at the final change. Our boys dug deep and a 4 goal to 3 final term saw us win by the smallest of margins. Moudy and Billy kicked 3 each with Jarrod, Kirky, Moudy, Collo, Anthony and Jason named in the best. Great game lads, keep it up!

The 19s were also in action on Saturday morning away to Strathmore Football Club and put in a terrific display. They held the lead all day, 11 points at the first change, 11 points again at half time, 24 at 3/4 time before running out winners by 52 points after a 5 goal to nothing final term. Stumpy kicked 5, Jacko 4 with Sorra and Jarrio adding 2 each while the best were Jarrio, Ahmed, Brock, Zak, Stumpy and Cookie. The win puts us clear in second and only a game off top. Great start to the season lads. keep it up

Sunday action at home kicked off with the Under 9s playing Hume Bombers and all of the kids had a great time, learning the skills of the game and representing the Magpies jumper brilliantly.

The next game saw the Under 13s taking on Keilor Park Football Club and although it was a much improved showing from the boys, they were unfortunately unable to get the 4 points, eventually losing by 37 points. Emi kicked 2 and BJ kicked 1 while the best on ground were Spongebob, Dylan, Mayz, the returning S.O.K (Son Of Kirk – Tay) and Zein. Great to see you boys really ran the game out and got late reward for all your efforts. Keep listening to Daniel boys and things will start to turn around for you.

The Under 18 youth girls followed, matched up against table topping Pascoe Vale Football Club and unfortunately could not get the points. We were again short on numbers due to injury and unavailability but that did not stop the girls from giving everything they had. Kirrily got our only goal in a 96 point loss with our best players being Emma, Aya, Janine, Danira, Shelby and Mareta. We came up against a very good opposition today girls so don’t drop your heads. We will get girls back into the side and things will start getting easier.

The Women’s side followed the youthies and although the result against Aberfeldie Sports Club. went their way, our ladies never lost any fans with their desire to keep working hard and never give in. We were again short on numbers through injury and thanks to the Youthies who doubled up from their game to help out. Keep believing and more results like last week will come your way.

The final game at home on Sunday saw the 17’s locked in a battle with Abers and unfortunately the Gorillas got the points on the day, winning by 52 points. Rami was the only multiple goal kicker on the day with Wally, Rami, Dogga, Eyad, Jaimon and Malik named in the best. Tim has you boys on the right track, just keep trusting what he’s telling you and translate what you learn at training into game day boys.

Our final two teams for the weekend were both away at Tullamarine Football Club and both teams came away with the points.

The Under 11’s made it two wins in a row with a nail biting 3 point win in the early game. With Jesse controlling the middle in the ruck and Taj dominant up forward, the win was a great reward for all the hard work the team is putting in. Huss and Taj with the only goals of the game while the best were Taj, Jesse, Noah, Mayen, Mazen and Huss.

The undefeated Under 15’s followed and continued their winning ways, a move up to Div 3 almost a certainty after another dominant display, winning by 138 points. Ramzy was again leading the way with the goals, kicking 4 alongside Taylan, Moe and Keirles kicked 3 each while Noah and Nic were the other multiple goal scorers. The best on ground were Noah, Moe, Ramzy, Ali and Cody. Jason wanted to pass on that it was once again a great TEAM effort that got the job done again. Keep up the great work boys, the club are proud of your efforts.

Next week see’s a return of senior action to Lakeside Drive as we have our first home game of the season as we take on Hadfield Football Club. Ferras and Sammy come up against some of their old team mates as we play them for the first time since we played them in the semi final in 2015….where Ferras and Sammy dominated the game! 19’s take on Burnside Heights Football Club away at the bear cave on Saturday morning while the Thirds take on Aberfeldie Sports Club. away at Clifton Park.

There is no Sunday Football next week as we await the fixtures to be released for the rest of the season following the grading games.
