Weekend Wrap - Juniors

15 Jul 2018 by Roxburgh Park Football Club

Sunday started at home with our Under 9s playing against East Keilor. Scott really has this group playing well as a group and they are loving playing together. It’s great to see out youngest magpies out there giving everything for the jumper!

The Under 15s were the next to hit Lakeside and wanted to get themselves back in with a chance of playing finals as they also took on East Keilor. With a strong wind blowing to one end we set the game up into the breeze in the first term as we went in only a point down, 2.1 to 2.2. In the second term we used the breeze well and added 4 goals to 1 to take a 21 point lead into half time. The Cougars hit back as expected, keeping us to just a point as they kicked 3.5 and we again found ourselves behind at the last change. Our boys were not to be denied as we put the visitors to the sword, booting 5.3 to 2 behinds as we won by 30 points – 11.9-75 to 6.9-45. Fresh from AFL Rep duties, Mo kicked 2 along with Billy and Ramzy while we had singles kicked by Isshac, Arif, Jordan, Nathan and Mo E. Our best were Mo, Ramzy, Billy, Abdurahman, Nathan and Nic. Back in winning form and one game out of playing finals. If we win and Keilor Park lose we are in…it’s as simple as that!

The Youth Girls were the last team to play at home for the round and took on second placed Hillside. In what was a statement game for our girls, they took out a win that puts them on top of the ladder with one game to come. Things didn’t start well with the Sharks getting well on top in the first term and holding us to no score while they added 2.4 and skipped away to a 16 point lead at 1/4 time. We got right back into the contest in the second quarter and built a half time lead as we added 4.3 to no score and led by 11 points. After half time we continued to pile on the pressure as we added 3 goals to 1 and stretched the lead to 23 points at the final break. In the last quarter some poor kicking for goal cost us a bigger victory as we added 2.7 to no score and won by 42 points. Sarah snagged 3, Kirrily 2 and Regina, Cookie, Alana and Shelby one each. Our best were Cookie, Danira, Kirrily, Samantha, Sarah and Regina. Top spot on the ladder with one week left in the season and a chance to go a long way in the finals if the girls keep playing like they are

The Under 11’s traveled to Hillside to take on the Sharks who were sitting 2nd on the ladder and we were desperate to back up last weeks good win to try to climb up to 4th on the ladder before finals. We got off to a great start kicking the first goal of the game in what were tricky conditions with a breeze blowing across the ground, Khaled snapping a beauty to get us on the board. In the second quarter Hillside got a goal through poor defending while we added a point to hold the slender 1 point lead at half time. In the third term we went back on the attack to the scoring end with Huss A. snapping a beauty into the cross breeze from the boundary and we led by 9 points at the final change. We went into full defensive mode in the last term to hold onto the lead and stopped them scoring to ensure we held on for the win and jumped to 4th on the ladder. Huss and Khaled kicking the two vital goals while our best players were Cooper, Huss A, Jack, Zack E, Ehab and Khaled. Great work boys! Get to training this week and work on things to get a hat-trick of wins up before finals!

The Under 13’s were away to Keilor Park and looking to build on their great win last week. We started brightly and kicked a goal in the first term and only trailed by 2 points at quarter time. Unfortunately after quarter time things unraveled and we weren’t able to hit the score board. The Devils piled on kicked 5 goals, 3 goals and then 9 in the last term to win this one easily by 113 points as we failed to score again. Zein kicking our only goal while our best were Matty, Roddie, Imran, Zein, Caleb and Zein. Let’s finish off with a big effort at home next week boys! Thanks to the 11’s boys who finished their game and made it across to the 13s to help give them a bench

The Under 17’s were our last side to play and were keen for another win. Unfortunately Pascoe Vale got the jump on the boys kicking 6.3 to 1 goal and we were behind the eight ball from the start. We held them scoreless in the second term, but the theme across a few teams this week continued as we kicked 2.11 for the term to blow any chance of getting back into the game. The Panthers kicked 4 goals to 2 in the 3rd to open up a break of 24 points going into the last and it was too much for us to make up as they ran away to the win, 14.6-90 to 6.12-48. Eyad booted 4 while Walid and Hamdou kicked 1 each. The best were Mustafa, Taycan, Ryan Nic, Alex and Malik

Next Sunday we have the last week of Junior fixtures as the Under 9s finish the year at the construction site at Moonee Valley, the 11s are at home to Tullamarine, the 13s are at home against Avondale Heights, 15s are away to Aberfeldie, Youth Girls at home to Moonee Valley and 17s at home to Hillside

This weeks wrap is bought to you by Anytime Fitness. If you are looking to shed that beer belly or just start toning up those flabby chicken wings, make sure you go to Anytime Fitness in Roxy and ask for Nathan or Hayden and tell them the Magpies sent you!
